Dr. Barnardo's Sheppard's House - AKA Children's Fold
Sheppard's House was built in 1887 at 182 Grove, London. First used for disabled children, it was later used for children moving from Babies Castle. Today the house is known at "The Driftway", 182 Grove Road. Read more: Children's Homes by Higginbotham |
The Liverpool Sheltering Home of Louisa Birt
Mrs. Birt became the head of the Liverpool Sheltering Home in 1873, in 1888 a large children's home was erected on the site of former buildings. Today the building is used as a college residence. Read more: Children's Homes by Higginbotham |
Dr. Barnardo's Barkingside Villiage - Cairns Cottage - the Clock Tower
Cairns Cottage was built in 1887 as two semi-detached cottages, one which has the octagonal clock tower. It has a belfry and four clock faces, a weather vane with the work "Cairns" on it. In 2005 the bell was restored and now chimes every quarter hour. The cottage is now used as apartments.

Dr. Barnardo's Barkingside VillageTwenty-two identical cottage homes make up the Girls Village, two of 1879, eighteen of 1887, and two of 1903. By Dr. Barnardo's death, there was 64 cottages.They were designed by Ebenezer Gregg and Dr. Barnardo. The cottages now have mostly all been sold as private residences.

Fegan's Stony Stratford

St. Edward's Home, Coleshill, Warwickshire, Catholic, Father Hudson
Development of the Father Hudson’s Society Complex to the south of the center of Coleshill began in 1905, eventually growing to include: eventually included its own hospital, nurses’home, cottage homes, offices, a church and several chapels and three convents for the nuns who worked on the site. his home was used up to the 1980's when the residential portion closed. Dr. Barnardo's Hawlkhurst Babies Castle
Officially opened on August 9th 1886, this Barnardo's home was opened for the reception of Babies, children under the age of 5. The property and smaller home, once known as "Hillside" was gifted to Dr.Barnardo in March of 1884 by Mr. Moillit. The facility ran under Barnardo's until 1965, then it was used for a while as an elderly care facility. The building, left to rot, was finally torn down in 2015. |
